Maths Centre Incorporating Sciences, popularly known as the Maths Centre, is a nonprofit organisation of excellence in mathematics, science, technology and entrepreneurship education; spread across all provinces. The primary objective is to equip teachers, learners and parents with learning materials and programmes in order to develop a higher competency and performance in these learning areas for Grades R-12 in South Africa. Maths Centre Incorporating Sciences has been supporting education since 1985, through both educator and learner development programmes, and currently runs more than 50 projects across 8 provinces.

Maths Centre seeks to appoint six Field Trainers - Primary Schools Maths, based in Botshabelo and Tabanchu, Free State Province.

The Field Trainers will work with 31 Primary Schools in learner and educator development in Mathematics. Maths Centre Field Trainers focus on both educator and learner development, and in this way have a significant, positive impact on the current and future education landscape in South Africa.

The Maths Centre places a heavy emphasis on continuous professional development of educators and this is mirrored in our own staff that is conscientiously and continuously developed to improve their skill set and performance. The training and development programs, experience and strong affiliation networks lead to further opportunities within the Maths Centre and other corporate and government positions.
 
Field Trainers are the core of Maths Centre’s renowned impact story. Maths Centre Field Trainers use proven methods to facilitate the teaching and learning process in South African schools and ensure education is corrected, restored and enhanced.

This is a one-year, fixed term contract position.

Responsibilities: 

  • Support and development of Mathematics teachers using the Maths Centre’s In Service Training model;
  • Learner Support to improve ANA results and overall performance in Mathematics;
  • Data collection and report writing.

Requirements: 

  • Appropriate tertiary qualification, preferably degree level in Mathematics;
  • Recognised teaching qualification;
  • Minimum of two years experience teaching Mathematics at Grade R–7 level;
  • Some experience in using ICT in the classroom (negotiable);
  • SACE Registration;
  • Basic computer skills – ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint;
  • Own functional, roadworthy car;
  • Valid driver’s licence;
  • Comprehensive car insurance;
  • Good health;
  • Ability to travel locally and to the Head Office in Braamfontein as and when necessary.

The salary package includes a provident fund benefit, cell phone and travel allowances.
