The Maths Centre for Professional Teachers, popularly known as the ‘Maths Centre’, is a nonprofit organisation (NPO) of excellence in mathematics, science, technology and entrepreneurship education, spread across all provinces. The primary objective of Maths Centre is to equip teachers, learners and parents with learning materials and programmes in order to develop a higher competency and performance.
 
Maths Centre seeks to appoint a IT Support Technician, based in Braamfontein.

The successful candidate will be managing the Centre IT infrastructure, telephone system, IT related queries to all provincial offices and staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for day to day management of the IT department;
  • Coordinate and oversee projects relating to system development and/or  equipment which falls under the responsibility of the IT department in conjunction with the external Maths Centre IT service provider;
  • IT resource management
  • IT Support Functions;
  • Provides hardware troubleshooting/diagnostics for workstations as and when required;
  • Liaise with the MCIS External IT service provide for the server upkeep, maintenance and troubleshooting;
  • Works as part of the helpdesk facility, monitors the help desk reports and identifies adverse trends in the performance of raised calls and their resolution;
  • Responsible for maintaining and expanding the IT support procedures to the company standard format and compliance;
  • Organise IT infrastructure and sound system during MCIS meetings, trainings and events;
  • Maintains with support from the IT Service Provider Company anti-virus systems on the integrated computer system, maintains security of all data and systems, applying patches, hot-fixes and service releases as necessary, identifies where upgrades and enhancements are required;
  • Participates in the control of contracts with external organisations that provide hardware and software support to the organisation;
  • Responsible for organising the installation of new hardware and operating system;
  • Plan, develop and implement the IT budget, obtaining competitive prices from suppliers, to ensure cost effectiveness;
  • Evaluating user needs and MCIS system functionality and ensuring that IT facilities meet these needs;
  • Manage crisis situations, which may involve complex technical hardware or software problems;
  • Manage the Centre telephone system with the assistant of the external service provider;
  • Manage the finger print building security access;
  • Manage the list of Maths Centre 3g cards that are given to staff for usage when out of the office;
  • Organise all tools of the trade for new employees and also keep an updated list of the tools;
  • As a term of your employment you may be required to undertake such other duties and/or times of work as may reasonably be required of your, commensurate with your grade or general level of responsibility within the organisation;
  • Liaise with the recruiting manager and MCIS external IT service provider to organise and set up the tools of the trade for all new employees;
  • Liaise with Finance Department to develop and update the IT equipment list on the asset register.

Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s licence and own functional vehicle;
  • Proven, clean track record - no fraud, a total believer in high standard work ethics;
  • Experienced person;
  • Background in the education sector preferred;
  • A highly responsible, conscientious, sensitive, team person;
  • A person who believes in organisational functions, productivity and quality assurance;
  • An excellent trainer, capacity builder, motivator;
  • An innovative business type manager who seeks to instigate quality assurance measures in every task;
  • Absolutely a product oriented person, a solution seeker, who seeks to finish the job, no matter how long it takes;
  • Diploma or Degree in a relevant discipline or other equivalent tertiary qualification;
  • Minimum of three years IT Technician experience (preferably in the service sector industry) advantageous;
  • Advanced knowledge of the following Systems required: Windows 2007 and 2008 Server, Cisco Systems, Vmware, Exchange 2007;
  • Advanced knowledge of the following Networking concepts: Switches, Routers, Hubs, Servers, Cables, Racks, Firewalls, LAN, WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, UDP, Latency, VoIP, QoS, MPLS;
  • MS Office package skills.
